Following on from the Management Training Program initiated last year, management staff were the recipients of an intensive course on Assertive Communication in Mitrais’ Bali office on March 2 and 3 2020. The background of Mitrais Management training program is to improve Mitrais management team’s skills in the area of people management and other relevant soft skills.
The training was delivered by well-known Organisational Development Consultant, Dr Katy Tindall, under the auspices of the Australian Institute of Management. Dr Tindall is a registered Organisational Psychologist with a Doctorate and an Honours degree in Psychology. In addition, Katy has certification in Executive Coaching (University of Sydney) and an Advanced Diploma in Leadership and Management (UWA-ILC). She is accredited in MBTI Personality Type Indicator, Human Synergistics (LSI and GSI), GENOS Emotional Intelligence, PRISMA Workstyles Inventory, and ACER Psychometric Tools.
With her extensive experience in contemporary people practices together with a strong theoretical background (from universities in Australia and the United States), Dr Tindall has earned her a reputation for providing valuable specialist expertise for client organisations. With her wealth of global experience, is the ideal expert to help develop world-class people skills in Mitrais team.
As Dr Tindall says, “Clarity and confidence are often seen as the secrets to effective assertive communication. By developing skills to clearly express your views in a confident manner, you are more likely to be successful at getting your message across and be more receptive and open to concerns expressed by others”.
The course was a deep dive into the art of people management, and aimed to equip participants with the ability to distinguish between assertive, aggressive and submissive behaviour, recognise their own strengths and weaknesses when communicating with others, select from a range of strategies for dealing with other people, be more confident when expressing their views to others, and cope with difficult people and difficult situations more effectively.
As part of the course wrap-up, Dr Tindall asked all of the attendees to make a pledge regarding how they would implement changes to their communication styles based on the content and learnings. Typical of the pledges was that made by Engagement Manager, Aming Suherman. He said “I will improve my assertive communication by listening more, seeking more options for better solutions, and collaborating more in achieving project goals”.
Mitrais Talent Acquisition and Development Manager, Abubakar Siddiq, was excited by the quality of this expert training. “Katy delivered the program beyond my expectation – as a matter of fact, I had several wow moments myself!” he said. “She improvised remarkably responding to the dynamics of the audience, and the response was fantastic.”
No doubt, we will be seeing the rewards from this training both internally and externally for years to come.
