Red and white hues vibrantly adorn the canvas of August in Nusantara, stretching from Sabang to Merauke. No other month can beat the festivities and the national pride that the month of August serenades; hence, it holds a special place in every Indonesian heart. August, in its essence, is always an invitation to reflect on the profound appreciation for the legacy of independence. It is also a moment to merrily rejoice in the victory. As a company in Indonesia, Mitrais will never miss a chance to immerse in the celebration.
Epic Festivities in Mitrais
Mitrais tuned in to the euphoric celebration of the 78th Independence Day by resuming its long-anticipated Independence Day Cup tradition – a high-spirited, action-packed event. Collaborating with all chairs of its social clubs, the company facilitated sports matches and thrilling games, inviting all staff to commemorate the occasion lively. With generous prizes up for grabs, the competitions included a mix of fun activities like badminton, basketball, table tennis, running, cycling, chess, carom, board games, mini 4WD, fishing, e-sports, and even karaoke!
By holding the event, the company wished to promote a team-building spirit that would enhance collaboration, communication, and camaraderie among colleagues in each office. Many signed up for the competitions, and Abdul Hamid Umar and Ni Wayan Luh Sukertiasih were no exceptions. Competitive and tough, they slew their opponents and won their matches big time.

Hamid’s POV
Hamid, a Junior Programmer, enthusiastically joined the frenzy to commemorate the national holiday. “While there were many categories, I chose to take part in basketball, badminton, futsal, and table tennis.” shared the sports fan. Hamid showed up with his basketball team of three and shattered the basketball net with the most dunks. He recounted joyfully, “Surprisingly, my 3×3 basketball team got the first place in the basketball competition for Yogyakarta office!”
“What is more, I won the futsal fun game,” added the sporty developer gleefully. The futsal’s don’t move challenge tickled him and other participants to burst into laughter every time they tried hard to resist the urge to move and kick the rolling ball – such a refreshing and entertaining moment that put a smile on everyone’s face, whether they were playing or cheering.

On top of the prizes, Hamid was really glad to be part of the festivities for another reason: he could unwind and make new acquaintances with birds of a feather. The alumni of Mitrais Fresh Graduate Bootcamp 2022 uttered, “One of the coolest things about participating in these competitions was getting to hang out with colleagues I hadn’t met before. During the competitions, we vibed and bonded more closely. I also found out that some of them are seriously awesome at basketball, badminton, and other sports, making the competition even more dynamic – the adrenalin rush that I was after.”

Kerti’s POV
For Kerti, the month of August is personally dear to her heart as she also celebrates her birthday on Independence Day. “I’m always moved by the remembrance of our national heroes who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. And having my birthday on a super important day feels like the whole country is partying with me”, revealed the congenial Bali-based Training and Development Staff, who has been with Mitrais for seven years.
Kerti channeled her inner patriotism through participating in badminton, sprint, and 3K long-distance running competitions. The crafty YouTuber and her match partner secured a win over the other teams with killing smashes and brought home the 2nd place trophy for the badminton mix double. During the running races, she powered through and remained steady in her lane, passing like a thunderbolt. And finally, she was ecstatic to cross the finish line, grabbing the sweet victory: two 1st rank cups for both running categories.
Besides winning, just like Hamid, Kerti cherished the experience because mingling and racing with fellow colleagues – even with the executives added a fun twist to the day. Plus, by taking part, the proud owner of two adorable ginger cats could vividly spread her work-life balance tales with friends on her socials. Kudos to the winners of the Mitrais Independence Day Cup 2023!

To everyone who participated, thank you for making this year’s cup phenomenal – we had a blast watching you all rock the competition. Happy 78th Independence Day, and catch you at our next festive event!
