Bluestone Studios: Shaping the Future of 3D Engineering Solutions

“The Bluestone Development Kit Project has seen Bluestone Studios, Mitrais and Innotech work together to produce a high quality product, that will compete in the global market and be up against the likes of Autodesk and TechSoft 3D. It’s a close knit team, that has worked consistently and harmoniously together; we are proud to be part of this relationship and proud of our new product.”

Shawn Thompson, Solution Architect, Bluestone Studios

3D Engineering Software

The software development community eagerly awaits the release of Bluestone Studios’ latest offering. Due for launch in November, the 3D Engineering Software Development Kit will enable clients to create their own 3D visualisation applications. The kit named Bluestone has unlimited application potential. Interest has already been shown to utilize the kit for application in mining, dentistry, physiotherapy skeletal structures, gaming and the animation of buildings for facilities management and control. If you
want to look at it, prod it, poke at it, analyse it and its 3D, Bluestone can do it.

Bluestone, the brainchild of Shawn Thompson, Solutions Architect for Bluestone Studios Pty Ltd, includes a multi-platform architecture that allows clients to develop their own products to run on Windows, Macs, Linux and iPads. Bluestone will surely be a strong competitor in the marketplace as it is uniquely compatible with all desktop platforms.

End-user components and input gestures can be included into any part of the architecture pipeline to change the style, look and feel of the product across all platforms. It includes advanced solid modelling and NURB math library; perfect for 3D analysis, an architecture that takes advantage of the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) making it super-fast and an application/user interface abstraction for handling the
messiness of operating system differences.

Bluestone Studios established a partnership with Innotech early on in the software’s development. Innotech with a global distribution network, designs and manufactures control systems. They partnered with Bluestone to develop their latest technology taking advantage of its real-time graphics to interact and display its 3D building management systems. Bluestone communicates with controllers that communicate with building parts such as air conditioning and lighting; input gestures from the Bluestone CAD engine drive operational equipment such as this. Much of Bluestone’s game technology came about as a result of Innotech’s need to see a building come alive, respond to faults and alarms and allow end-users literally walk around.

Mitrais has been part of Bluestone Studios’ three and a half year journey to develop the kit, assisting and developing Bluestone with its complete .NET framework. In order to achieve high speed graphics and animation for large models, Mitrais and Bluestone Studios have combined technologies such as DirectX and OpenGL into seamless .NET Frameworks. Clients can easily create 3D applications with C# and unknowingly harnesses the power of these very powerful yet platform specific engines.

It’s a close knit team, that has worked consistently and harmoniously together; we are proud to be part of this relationship and proud of our new product,” comments Mr Thompson.
