In an ideal nearshore software development model, analysis activities are performed on-site using a limited number of professionals. They can be either Mitrais staff or your own resources. The coding element, which requires a large pool of professionals, is delegated to the nearshore team. Design can be performed nearshore and Bali is ideal to temporarily relocate your design staff due to its close proximity and marginal time differences.
The above diagram shows the typical distribution of tasks for a nearshore software development project.
Agile is becoming the new standard in many areas of global development, and Mitrais works with an ever-increasing number of Australian clients who have successfully integrated SCRUM development methods with their use of geographically disparate teams. Those clients range from ASX listed household names developing and managing multiple products with multiple Mitrais teams, to SMEs developing a single solution. Our training programmes now include comprehensive learning offerings in Agile and SCRUM based on industry leading courseware, as well as detailed training on selected SCRUM Management tools. This means that our staff are ready to hit the ground running as a contributing member of your SCRUM team from day one, already familiar with the corner-stone concepts of developing software the efficient Agile way.
Our corporate standard is Atlassian’s well-regarded Jira Issue Tracking System, which allows us to open secured client-specific access into particular jobs. Some of our clients use other defect tracking systems as well, and we are happy to adopt those products. Where we are using a full suite of client products, we generally try to establish VPN access into their systems to ensure maximum compatibility for the entire team.
Our preference is always to try to use whatever source control system that the client currently uses. We work regularly with TFS, SourceSafe, CVS, etc. Some of our clients prefer us to remote into their repositories and check out directly, while others like us to split off a branch, keep it local, and synchronize the repositories on a weekly basis. Whatever your current process is, we try to integrate with you. Some clients require nightly builds, and we can usually accommodate that as well. The bottom line is that we try to be flexible enough to integrate into a client’s development environment as smoothly as possible.
Problem and issue management is another important part of maintaining nearshore software development relationship. Each client has an Account Manager with whom they have regular contact and direct access to resolve problems and issues. If the issue needs further input or escalation, the accountable Senior Manager becomes directly involved to resolve issues and problems. If resolution cannot be reached, Executive Management is accessible to the client to reach a mutual outcome. Mitrais manage this process proactively and effectively.
A quality assurance process is a key element of Mitrais methodologies. Measurement, project planning, quality reviews and the continuous improvement of standards, procedures and tools are an integral part of our methodology. Mitrais software development process is a product of a CMMI Scampi B appraisal performed in 2006 and is continuously improved using CMMI as a model. Recent improvements include adding elements of agile methodologies primarily based on Scrum.
Clear and informative communication is, of course, the hallmark of successful projects. As a base, Mitrais provides comprehensive weekly reports to all stakeholders regarding the operation of every client’s team. This includes the information necessary to understand where the project and the Mitrais engagement stands at any point. In addition, many of our clients supplement this with additional measure to enhance the integration of the Mitrais team with their local resources. On-line demonstrations of software progress, team briefings and daily stand-ups are all used by clients to ensure that all team members remain on the same page at all times. Whatever your reporting requirements, Mitrais is happy to work with you to achieve them.
