PROJECT SYNOPSIS

Enterprise Applications
From Legacy to Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) System Upgrade - Mitrais has successfully upgraded the ERP used by Cement Industries of Malaysia Berhad (CIMA). The new system went live at 3 different sites. Although there were a number of challenges associated with the three month project, Mitrais succeeded in bringing the project in on time and on budget. According to Hasni Halim, CIMA Project Manager, the upgrade moved CIMA from a legacy system to a SOA. Now users are able to utilise the updated integrated features of various modules such as Asset & Work Management, Supply Chain Management, Financial Management and Human Resources Management. The project was undertaken by a joint team of 15 staff from CIMA and Mitrais.

Factory Reporting System - Mitrais has successfully completed a Factory Reporting System (FRS) for Philip Morris Indonesia. The system streamlines and automates data gathering processes from the production floor and provides rich reporting capabilities to supervisors and management groups. Production information, such as tobacco material usage, non-tobacco material usage, filter-maker-packer-ripper production flows, wastage and other vital information are captured by the system. The reporting module gives detailed and accurate views of daily activities, such as machine efficiency, machine utilization, factory utilization, material usage, finished goods, and executive summaries. The system implementation has been rolled out to Philip Morris Malaysia and a local customization has also been undertaken for the version to be used by Philip Morris Korea.

ERP System Support - Mitrais has established & trained a team to provide support for a major ERP system vendor, Mincom International Pty Ltd in Brisbane, Australia. A Frame relay link into the client’s office allows the Mitrais software engineers to work directly on the client’s source code. This is a prime example of a high trust relationship where the Mitrais Team is integrated with that of the client. Some examples of the work are:

  • Ellipse Internationalization - Simple COBOL works to remove some embedded literals within the code and replace them with a macro. Some 350 out of 1500 components have been assigned to Mitrais Software Engineers to review and convert. The work has been done in a very short period (just over a week) with proper internal code review for Quality Assurance.
  • Mincom SA Payroll - a team for coding and unit testing was formed to support Mincom South Africa for their payroll development. This is a very good example of CSD (Collaborative Software Development) where the project leader is in South Africa, the Software Architect and Designers are in Brisbane while the development team is in Bali. Mitrais has successfully supported the first phase of this project and will be involved in the next phases.
  • Ellipse 5.2.3 SP 4 Web View work order resolution - a team of Mitrais staff was sent to Mincom Brisbane to join the development team for bug-busting Web View work orders for an urgent target date release. The team was out placed for one month and sent back home after the number of outstanding work orders has been decreased significantly.
  • Ellipse 5.2.3 upgrade projects - a number of Mitrais Software Engineers were seconded to join Mincom APAC team in a number of Ellipse upgrade projects on client sites in Australia. Mobile Applications
A Mobile Sales Application - Mitrais has developed mobile survey application for a food processing company to support its sales force throughout Indonesia. The application highlights Mitrais’ ability to both develop software and to integrate leading edge third party software to produce a rich user experience. The mobile survey application involves complicated business processing including route planning, scheduling, interactive mobile data collection, data consolidation, synchronization and reporting. Armed with Microsoft PocketPC based devices the sales force visits retail outlets to gather market and sales intelligence. The surveys are synchronized in real time to the sales center in the region for the supervisor to generate periodic reports as feedback to the sales team, and also synchronized to the head office for management reporting. The application can be highly customized as regards the questions and also the reporting format, making the system flexible enough to collect data for various market segments or whenever the company launches new products.

To provide a rich user experience in the desktop application, Mitrais integrated NetAdvantage software from Infragistics, the market leader in the presentation layer components industry for more than a decade. NetAdvantage provides the most comprehensive set of components for quickly building and styling commercial class user interfaces for Windows Forms, ASP.NET, JSF and WPF applications. These components are flexible enough to be customized and extended to meet user requirements. The best feature of NetAdvantage is that Infragistics has its own application styling framework. It is a stand-alone function that allows the creation of themes for an application. Themes are read during run-time so users don’t need to re-compile if they want to change the theme of their application.

Ken, thank you for sending us Charles. He was a great assistance to us during his time here and was very professional in everything that he did. He actually made us have to work harder because he was fixing the bugs faster than we could test them. Because of Charles, we will be contacting your company again in the near future for other work that we have coming up. Of course now everyone up there has to live up to the groundwork done by Charles :-) Warren Notley, Managing Director, Paperless Warehouse, Australia.
