MITRAIS SEEKS CMMI LEVEL 4 ASSESSMENT
01 June 2006

Mitrais, the leading Indonesian software developer, is to work with the international quality management consultants CyberQ to achieve formal level 4 CMMI assessment by April 2007. CMMI, or Capability Maturity Model Integration, is a process improvement approach that equips organisations such as Mitrais with the essential elements of effective processes.

Mitrais will use CMMI to guide process improvement across client software development projects as well as internally across the entire Mitrais organization. CMMI will assist Mitrais integrate traditionally separate organisational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes.

Announcing the move today, Mitrais CEO David Magson says the company's Software Development Division has been weighing the benefits of extending the ISO 9002 procedures currently used in one of its technology streams against obtaining formal CMMI assessment for some time.

"Obviously, the CMMI option won the debate", he said.

"We internally assessed that CMMI has the better capability to drive process change and has wider IT industry international recognition. Internally we have been complying with CMMI practice for some time and assess ourselves currently at level 3."

Magson said, "Our existing customers know that Mitrais delivers fixed price projects on time and on budget but new customers demand the security of formal assessment. Surveys show that while the primary reason for offshoring IT services is cost it is closely followed by process improvement. In the past we have been deterred by the cost. The CyberQ investment represents excellent value for money but it will still cost around half a million dollars over 18 months."

"This is a significant expense for Mitrais but as part of our commitment to world class quality performance, CMMI will enable us to take on larger contracts world-wide while guaranteeing our clients a safe return on their investment", Mr Magson said.
