YAYASAN KEMANUSIAAN IBU PERTIWI
Mitrais provides office facilities and web design, hosting and maintenance to
Yayasan Kemanusiaan Ibu Pertiwi (
YKIP). YKIP was originally set up to assist in the recovery efforts after the Bali bombing in October 2002. Since that time, its mission has expanded to include projects that improve the lives of the needy in Bali through health and education. These include: a medical clinic for women and their partners, a medical library at the state university (Udayana) in Denpasar, assistance to YAKKUM, a charity that works with physically challenged children, an AIDS and drug awareness program in the schools run by YAKEBA, hearing aids and maintenance costs given to the hearing impaired, and scholarships for children of the bomb victims and over 400 impoverished children through-out the island. Individual members of Mitrais are office bearers in YKIP, including the Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.
WANA SERAYA AGED CARE HOME: This home for elders who have no family or whose family cannot afford their upkeep are housed in a clean and well equipped Aged Care Home in Denpasar. YKIP is administering this project for Tropical Homes. [

BOMB VICTIM SUPPORT: In October 2005, two bombs went off in Kuta and Jimbaran, killing 23 and injuring 146. YKIP and ALF provided emergency relief, educational bonds to the victims' children and sponsored a Trauma Counseling center for three months. [

YAKKUM BALI-s Orthopedic and Prosthesis Workshop. There are more than 6,500 physically challenged children in Bali. YAKKUM BALI has built a workshop that will enable those needing prostheses to obtain them locally, while at the same time training these youngsters in how to manufacture prostheses. A specially outfitted van is going into the rural areas to assist these children. [

YAYASAN RAMA SESANA-s Reproductive Health Clinic at the Badung Marketplace. The goal of this project is to improve the reproductive health of women and their partners and to empower the market women of Bali through information and health services. Located on the top floor of the largest traditional market in Bali, YRS fill's a void in many women-s lives. Free counseling and low-cost treatment are available to all. [

YAKEBA DRUG/ALCOHOL and
AIDS/HIV AWARENESS IN THE SCHOOLS. Substance abuse and STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) are, unfortunately, not unknown entities in Bali-s high schools. A medical doctor and former addicts go into the schools to show the students the dangers of substance abuse in an innovative and interactive program. [

EAST BALI POVERTY PROJECT: ALF is funding a number of the East Bali Poverty Project's programs, which focus on education and poverty alleviation. YKIP has been appointed to be the administrator of these programs. [

YKIP - YKIDS Children-s Education Trust Fund (with generous donations from ALF, Centrelink Australia and the Hong Kong Football Club). This project provides comprehensive education, uniforms and school supplies for the children of victims who were killed or injured after the bombings. Yayasan KIDS (Kuta International Disaster Scholarship of COURTS) has joined forces with YKIP to form the YKIP - YKIDS education fund. [

MREC: Long Term Medical Training - Medical Library YKIP has been working closely with a number of doctors from the university medical faculty in Bali to implement a program to improve training for Balinese doctors, medical students and paramedics. The first step of the project funds an update of the medical library at the Udayana University in Bali, including a virtual library. [

KEMBALI/Kids- Education Management In BALI Due to the economic downfall since the advent of the Bali bomb, many children have been forced to drop out of school as their parents can no longer afford the fees. YKIP has begun a new scholarship program for primary and secondary level students so they can return (kembali in Indonesian) to school. [

THE HEARING IMPAIRMENT PROJECT There are numerous children in special schools for the deaf who, if they had hearing aids (and the means to maintain them), could lead richer lives. We are looking for used hearing aids as well as for sponsors to pay for the batteries and other maintenance needs.. Currently we are sponsoring 40 children. [

PROJECTS 2002-2005
Distribution of Donated Medicines YKIP distributed over 20 tons of donated medicines through a program authorized by the Governor of Bali and the Health Department of Bali Province during the Bali bomb blast recovery.

Emergency Medical Kits YKIP provided funding for a program to train stand-by volunteers to deal with any future incident involving mass casualties. Special kits have already been put together so that teams of trained volunteers can assist 40 victims each in case of an emergency. [

Direct Aid To Victims YKIP paid for a number of post-bomb operations as well as donated funds to Parum Samagita and Zero to One to assist with the needs of victims. [

Trauma Counseling via Wayang Kulit. A unique shadow puppet play was created by I Made Sidia to assist the local community come to terms with symptoms of depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A traditional Balinese story was used, with new puppets and techniques (skateboards and powerpoint) and taken into villages and the schools under the tutelage of an Indonesian psychiatrist. [

North Bali Women's Health Care Two midwife clinics were renovated in Pemuteran and women were given free pap smears and medications. [
